The 28-year-old South African athlete from UP-Tuks, made history in France this January. He smashed the national indoor heptathlon record twice in eight days.
First, on January 18, 2026, he scored 5379 points in his indoor debut.
He won all seven events: 60m, long jump, shot put, high jump, 60m hurdles, pole vault, and 1000m. Then, on January 25-26 at Arena Stade Couvert in Liévin, he improved to 5429 points.

He won four events and set PBs in pole vault (4.86m), 60m hurdles (8.37s), and 1000m (2:49). Morné called Day 1 “horrible” with body fatigue. He bounced back on Day 2 to break the record again.
