The Indiana Fever are entering a period of massive uncertainty as the 2026 WNBA season approaches.
Despite boasting the most formidable young duo in basketball, the roster currently looks remarkably thin on paper. Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston, and Makayla Timpson are the only three players officially locked in under contract for the upcoming campaign.
The rest of the roster remains in a state of flux due to high-stakes free agency and the looming WNBA expansion draft for the Toronto Tempo and Portland Fire. Key contributors like Kelsey Mitchell and Lexie Hull are at the center of the waiting game.
While the Fever can core Mitchell and match offers for Hull, nothing is set in stone until the league reaches a new labor agreement. The March 10 deadline for a CBA term sheet is the primary roadblock for every team in the league.
If no deal is reached, the scheduled May 8 season opener could face significant delays or disruptions.
Current proposals suggest a salary cap jump to approximately 5.75M, which would drastically alter how teams manage their superstar cores long-term. For now, the Fever faithful must wait for the dust to settle on labor talks before the front office can finalize the supporting cast around Caitlin and Boston.
The expansion draft and the April 13 WNBA Draft will be the next major hurdles once the financial rules are established.
