CRICKET WORLD CUP 2027 FIXTURES: WANDERERS LANDS THE FINAL

Published:

The ICC released the full Cricket World Cup 2027 fixtures on Thursday afternoon and opened the ticket ballot with it. Fifty-seven matches, 14 teams, 12 grounds, from Saturday 2 October to Sunday 21 November 2027, across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

The final is in Johannesburg on 21 November, with 22 November held as a reserve day. The semi-finals are in Cape Town on Wednesday 17 November and in Tshwane on Thursday 18 November, both with reserve days of their own. ESPNcricinfo has named the Wanderers as the Johannesburg ground. The ICC fixture page names the city.

South Africa are in Group B with New Zealand, Sri Lanka, England, Bangladesh and Qualifier B. They start against New Zealand at Newlands on Saturday 9 October.

Group A is India, Australia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and Qualifier A. The group stage, not the tournament, opens with India against Australia at Newlands on Thursday 7 October, a rematch of the 2023 final. The tournament itself opens three days earlier, in Windhoek.

The Super 7 section of the Cricket World Cup 2027 fixtures is seeded. India are A1, Australia A2, Pakistan A3, England AB4, New Zealand B1, South Africa B2, Sri Lanka B3. If a non-seeded side finishes in a qualifying spot and a seeded side does not, the non-seeded side takes that slot and plays those dates.

How the Cricket World Cup 2027 fixtures fit together

The Cricket World Cup 2027 fixtures cover the 14th men’s ODI World Cup, the first in Africa since 2003, when South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya shared it. The ICC is running it under “Three Nations, One Heartbeat”. Eight grounds are in South Africa, three in Zimbabwe, one in Namibia.

Getting to the knockouts takes three stages: a three-team Super Series, a 12-team group stage of 30 matches, then a Super 7 of 21 matches. The top three in each group, plus the better of the two fourth-placed sides, make the Super 7. The top four there reach the semis.
