The 19-year-old Mercedes prodigy secured his second consecutive win of the 2026 season, delivering a masterclass in composure to claim the Japanese Grand Prix. By crossing the line first in Japan, Antonelli officially becomes the youngest driver in history to lead the World Championship standings at 19 years, six months, and 28 days.
The race was far from simple for the teenager, who dropped to P6 on the opening lap after a difficult start from pole position before clawing his way back through the field.

A mid-race safety car on Lap 22 following a heavy 50G crash for Haas driver Oliver Bearman at Spoon Curve allowed the Italian to leapfrog his rivals and retake the lead. While many veterans have struggled with the radical 2026 technical regulations, the young star appears to have mastered the complex 50-50 power split between combustion and battery energy.
Team Principal Toto Wolff was visibly ecstatic in the garage as his bold decision to promote the teenager continues to pay massive dividends for the Silver Arrows.
