Our very own Aimee Canny has officially locked in her spot for Glasgow. The performance she put on at the SA National Swimming Championships in Gqeberha was nothing short of legendary.
Taking gold in the 100m breaststroke with a blistering 1:06.57 is one thing, but smashing the African record in the 200m freestyle proves she is in a league of her own. She is showing the kind of form that makes rivals nervous and local fans start booking their flights to Scotland already.

“Aimee is an absolute machine in the water and her versatility across different strokes makes her our biggest threat for multiple podiums in Glasgow.” – Jay | JPS
TECHNICAL PERFORMANCE DATA
- 100m Breaststroke Gold: 1:06.57
- 200m Freestyle: New African Record
- Total Qualifying Events: 100m Breast, 200m Breast, 200m Free, 200m IM
- Training Base: University of Virginia
The time spent honing her craft at the University of Virginia has clearly turned her into a world-class operator who knows how to handle the big stage pressure.
It is not just about the raw speed but the mental toughness she brings to the blocks every single time.

South Africa has a rich history in the pool and Aimee is busy carving out her own legacy that might just top them all if she maintains this massive momentum. Seeing a local athlete dominate four different disciplines including the individual medley shows she has the engine of a supercar.
We are looking at a once in a generation talent who is not afraid to get stuck in against the best in the world. Glasgow better be ready because this Saffa is coming for the gold and she is not planning on taking any prisoners when the racing starts in July.
