The Sharks were their own worst enemy again as they fell 21-17 to the Ospreys in a match defined by unforced errors and standard-issue Durban frustration.
Despite the late introduction of Ox Nche and Vincent Koch, JP Pietersen’s men failed to capitalise when it mattered. The game took a controversial turn at Dunraven Brewery Field in the final quarter when the Ospreys triggered uncontested scrums, citing a sudden lack of fit front-row specialists.
While this move neutralised the Sharks’ primary weapon, the Ospreys were forced to play the final 12 minutes with 14 men as a penalty under URC laws. Incredibly, even with the one-man advantage and a World Cup-winning front row on the pitch, the Sharks couldn’t find a way through.
Phepsi Buthelezi provided the lone bright spot with two well-taken tries, supported by a score from Ethan Hooker, but the lack of clinical execution across the rest of the park was staggering. Every time the Sharks looked to build momentum, a handling error or tactical lapse derailed the effort.

The Ospreys played the clock and leaned into the stoppages, exposing a Sharks side that looks completely disjointed and unable to find a secondary gear—even against 14 men.
“To be honest, the Sharks once again proved to be their own worst enemy, with mistakes under no pressure whatsoever, one after another! This franchise is in deep trouble.” – Jay | JPS
