The waiting game is finally over for Beyers Swanepoel and Worcestershire County Cricket Club.
After a tense period of administrative limbo and a messy exit from the South African domestic season, the versatile all-rounder has officially received his No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Cricket South Africa.
Swanepoel can now focus on the grass, though he hasn’t entirely escaped the shadow of the boardroom. The 27-year-old was at the centre of a massive tug-of-war following his controversial departure from the Lions during the CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge final.
Walking out mid-match to catch a flight to England forced the Lions to finish with 10 men and ultimately lose on the penultimate ball. While his contract was terminated by mutual agreement, he still faces ongoing CSA disciplinary proceedings for bringing the game into disrepute—a cloud that follows him to the UK.

With the paperwork finally in order, Swanepoel is integrated into the squad at New Road. He missed the opening salvos against Derbyshire and Middlesex, but the timing of his clearance is surgical.
He has a clear runway to build match fitness before Worcestershire—famously nicknamed the Pears—faces Kent on April 24. For the South African fans following his progress, Swanepoel represents a massive addition to the English circuit.
He isn’t just a placeholder; he’s a genuine threat with both the new ball and the willow. Having previously featured for Kent in 2024, he knows the specific rigours of the county game. Worcestershire is getting a man with a point to prove, even as the legal fallout continues back home.
